Term 2 2025-26 Action Post: Care for Others - School-wide initiative
An action that we have taken to support our school's learning focus is: this term, we furthered our learning from the foundational expression of 'what is nature teaching us?' and the importance of shining light in darkness. Building off the Winter Solstice event in December, the SR committee supported a school-wide fundraising initiative that culminated with a clothing fundraiser, and all items collected were donated to the Richmond Family Place. At our Pink Shirt Day Assembly on February 25th, we invited Valerie and Maha from the organization to come and receive over 350 items, including books, sweaters, shirts, pants, jackets, hats, footwear, socks, gloves, swimsuits and umbrellas.
The Thompson Care Giving Club helped collate and organize all of the items throughout the campaign and when asked what this group of grade 5 and 6 students learned from the experience - they said "there is such a sense of gratitude when taking in part in this project" and there's a "realization that both giving and receiving can bring such joy". One student then asked "I'm now wondering what else is possible."
This action supports our school's learning focus in the following ways:
- continuing to foster, embody and express our school-wide initiative of care for self, place and in particular others, this term.
- continuing to find coherence and alignment in our collective actions and seeing the impact we can have in our community; many small actions have big impact
- continue to look for need. Seek out a problem. Find something you care about. Do a little bit of good each day.
