Term 1 2025-26 Action Post - intentional learning and teaching
As a school we have been intentional in what we are learning to support our teaching in service of our literacy focus:
At both our September 22nd and November 28th Pro-D dates we have taken time to dive deeper into the many resources located in the Pillars of Literacy in Learn38.

2. We worked with Faye Brownlie in grade-groupings on October 15th, 30th and November 13th using our RFRA data to guide teaching as staff volunteers had the opportunity to co-teach with Faye. Also to note - Alli Ridley (our school's teacher consultant) joined on all three days for continuity, as we move forward through our school year.
The focus was:
- K-2: story writing
- Grade 2-5: comprehension
- Grade 5-7: non-fiction reading/writing
In all three days of learning, there was an emphasis on reading conferences, at all ages. The power and influence of 1-2 minutes of fast, direct and intentional teaching that can occur in a 1-on-1 situation that also supports building relationship and growing a sense of belonging.

3. We have also used the RFRA data in creating literacy groups that provides targeted support for some of our primary learners who are either just learning their alphabet, beginning reading, or strengthening their reading. These students, come together for short bursts of learning (max 25 minutes), with students from different classes who are all working on developing the same skills. Already, at this time in the school year we are noticing that students are finding success and improving in foundational elements of literacy.
