2025-26 School Year Focus
As we navigate this school year, we continue to build on the foundational work from past years in tending to our community and fostering a sense of belonging for all learners while integrating a specific focus on literacy.
When we looked at the data in Spring 2025, with our progress reports and FSA scores - it was clear that there was room for improvement in all subject areas, yet in particular with literacy, given the proficiency scores of our students.
Being responsive, as a school community, we formed the following initiatives:
- Completed the RFRA (Richmond Formative Reading Assessment) for all learners; Sept 8-19
- Staff explored the data collected from this assessment to:
- identify key areas of focus in literacy (strengths, stretches, next steps)
- collaborate as classroom teams
- use the literacy pillars to support planning and instruction around key areas of focus
- integrate literacy across the curriculum
- Created literacy groups for primary students to provide targeted support for our beginning readers
- Worked with Faye Brownlie in grade groupings to explore teaching strategies specific to story writing, comprehension and non-fiction reading and writing
- Organized additional collaboration opportunities with our school's teacher consultant, Alli Ridley in January
- Planned for RFRA Spring Assessments to see:
- What was the impact of these initiatives?
- What worked?
- What didn't?
- What next?
