Term 1 2024/25 Action Post
ACTION POST -
For creating a respectful and inclusive environment and increasing a sense of belonging –
Pro-D in ACTION:
- As a staff we worked with Ellen Hsu, Silvia Miles and Marnie Flores on December 2nd, 2024 - to initiate the conversation about updating our matrix and align our school with intentional and consistent language.
- In our initial steps - we are acknowledging our common values
- We have a second Pro-D session set for January 24th, 2025 to further this work.
- Also, some staff are learning together, as we read "Reclaiming our Students" by Hannah Beach and Tamara Strijack Neufeld
- Our focus on the importance of adult/student relationships is emphasized by data we collected from our class reviews in November 2024 and MDI data collected from previous school years.
Student voice in ACTION:
- On Nov 21st, 2024 and January 17th, 2025 Ellen Hsu worked with some of our intermediate students - hearing their insights about being, belonging and becoming
- Student voice is central in our on-going conversation about creating and updating common school language.
Belonging in the school ACTION:
- Multi-age soccer is occurring in the gym at lunch on a weekly basis (grade 3-7)
- Some grade 6/7 have organized Monthly Spirit Days – for all students and staff
- Student leadership jobs for Term 1 are complete and even more students turned out to help for Term 2.
- For our Winter Performance, we had:
- V’Ni Dansi – Metis Dance Workshops for all students:
- Leading up to the week of dance workshops, our whole school took the initiative to embed the First People's Principles of Learning from Métis culture in the classroom;
- For the performance (see photos) - each division created a collection of Métis beadwork inspired floral motifs that captured Métis worldview values from the Giving Tree, a Traditional Metis Story:
- These values include tolerance, courage, patience, strength, balance and kindness
- V’Ni Dansi – Metis Dance Workshops for all students:
- The Métis Art emphasized the importance of each unique bead while also acknowledging the beauty and influence we all have, in the culmination of our shared expression on the world.
- One class created their own giving tree in the main hallway, inviting all students and staff to share their gratitudes on a regular basis (see photo)
