Term 2/3 - Evidence Post 2024/25 - Social Responsibility Matrix and Sharing Assemblies
At Thompson - we continue to ground our school story through social responsibility.
We are dynamically exploring a visual matrix that incorporates the lived expression of showing care, kindness and respect to ourselves, each other and our place. Students and staff are creating and referencing different visuals to capture this learning and provide a light-house referent point, for sustained orientation.
A couple examples of these visuals can be seen below. We intend on finalizing a consistent visual, as we continue this work, next school year.
As a school, we have used anchor texts to align and cohere individually and collectively. Each division explored the same picture book, unpacked big ideas, made connections to how these understandings relate to our context at Thompson and then shared at a school assembly.
The three sharing assemblies have been:
1. Pink Shirt Day Assembly in February - exploring care for self, others and place using 'Zen Shorts' by Jon Muth
2. Earth Day Assembly in April - exploring care and respect for place using 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies
3. National Indigenous Month at end of May (for June) - exploring care and respect for place and others using 'The Little Hummingbird' by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas.
